AWN Insider Volume 7

Front Row Perspectives with Sean Cuebas

It's been a while but Cuebas is back with my fourth edition of Front Row Perspectives. This time I am going to switch it up a little, have a little fun and come at you guys Pro Wrestling Illustrated style with some predictions about a few of the guys set to make a huge impact in the AWN in 2012. There are a lot of guys who are going to have a good year but I think these seven men are going to stand out from the crowd this year. Let's get to it.....

CJ Awesome
The reigning Southern Heritage Champion has the Distinction of being the least liked man in the AWN and he loves it. Despite how you feel about him you have to admit that CJ has brought the SHC back from the dead and made it mean something again. Everyone is waiting with baited breath for someone to take it from him. Danny Horne is waiting in the wings but he is not the only man with his eyes on the prize. The gold is a target and it makes CJ a marked man but every time he seems out of a match he pulls through with his title intact. He enjoys proving everyone wrong with a smile on his face. Just how long he is going to hold the title is up in the air but I expect CJ to keep his momentum rolling in 2012.

The New Age Renegades
Bric Bradley and Steven Stiles were making slow strides as single competitors but since being put together as a tag team to try and breathe some life into the tag team scene, both men have flourished. A red hot feud with The Gentlemen's Club culminated in a huge victory for the AWN Tag Team Championships at Christmas Chaos. Eventually the Club will return looking for a rematch but until then just who will challenge the Renegades remains a mystery. That lack of competition may give some cause to question whether or not the Renegades deserve to be champions at all. In the meantime, expect a who's who of thrown together teams to step up and try to make a name for them at the Renegades expense. As they have already shown, Bradley and Stiles are ready for the challenge.

WildChild Joey Kidman
Before being super kicked out of AWN last June, Kidman was on the verge of getting a shot at the AWN Southern Heritage Championship, and then he was gone. They say out of sight, out of mind but judging by the response he has gotten since his return, everyone still loves the WildChild. His time away wasn't wasted as Kidman transformed his physique and added even more to his already impressive repertoire. I see no reason why he shouldn't contend for the SHC soon. Assuming of course that he doesn't have heavyweight gold on his mind. Expect big things!!!

Leon McMichaels
The big question on every one's mind is will this be the year that Leon finally achieves his goal of adding the AWN Heavyweight Championship to his already impressive resume. Leon had made his intentions clear since returning to the AWN late last year and after earning the number one contenders spot in a violent feud with Shane Curtis, he isn't about to waste his opportunity at the champ. I truly believe that this will be the year that Leon gets his wish and it will happen sooner rather than later. I think it will be the perfect way to start the New Year off with a bang!

"The Beast" Shane Curtis
No one had a better year in 2011 than Curtis and this year promises to be no different. After finally breaking off on his own and coming off two huge feuds with Kross and Leon McMichaels to end the year, Curtis is at the top of his game and poised to excel in 2012. He is set to start off by taking on former WWE Superstar Bull Buchanan at AWN's first show of the year, Retribution. Win or lose, this is a huge opportunity for Curtis to silence what remains of his critics and make a strong case for why he should be taken seriously as a player in the Heavyweight scene. The AWN title will be in his possession by midyear. 2012 is the year of The Beast. Stop booing and bow down!!

The Real Deal Jake Slater
After his huge title win at Christmas Chaos 2010, Slater seemed poised to have a monstrous 2011 but that never really transpired. Slater took a sabbatical from AWN and returned refocused and ready to pick up where he left off. He put Chic Donovan on the shelf with the Pile driver and made it his mission to drop as many men as he could on the top of their heads. This drew the ire of Paul Warfield and the two began a feud that saw its conclusion in a Lumberjack strap match at Christmas Chaos 2012 that saw Slater get the win. Slater could turn his focus back the rest of the AWN and his ultimate goal, being champ again. However Warfield won't be satisfied with how things ended and Slater will be forced to address the situation with him before turning his attention to whoever may be champion. His title quest may have to be put on hold until mid year. Either way it is prolonging the inevitable, Slater will be champion again.

Feedback is appreciated,
Sean D. Cuebas
